Marcelino Sure Valencia Can Beat Arsenal At Mestalla
Despite losing to Arsenal in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final, Marcelino believes his team can carve out a comeback at the second meeting next week.
Valencia coach Marcelino has not given up hope to bring his team to the Europa League final this season despite just losing 3-1 to Arsenal in the first leg of the semi-final on Friday (3/5) early this morning.
In the match that was held at the Emirates Stadium last night, Valencia scored first in the 11th minute through Mouctar Diakhaby, but Alexandre Lacazette instantly reversed the position thanks to his two-goal contribution before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed the hosts' victory ahead of dispersal.
Marcelino himself still believes his team can make a comeback when they turn to host Arsenal at Mestalla next week.
"We are sorry that we did not get better results [at the Emirates]," he was quoted from the club's official website. "They scored two goals on two occasions. It's really unfortunate they can score the third goal, which we don't expect, because in truth the game is under our control.
"This defeat does not necessarily make us give up to qualify for the final. Of course I am sure that we can repay him at the Mestalla.
"We are still in the Europa League semi-finals, and not many teams can win the trophy. You know the level of the team you will face at this stage of the season, and that is very high.
"In seven days we will train hard so we can reach the Europa League final. I don't feel there are Valencia supporters, despite this defeat, thinking Arsenal are superior to us tonight.
"We have passion and optimism. We knew it was difficult to win 2-0 [at the Mestalla], but why can't you do it if Arsenal can beat us 3-1 here? I am sure the fans will be behind us and we are sure we can repay them. "
